FAQ
“What are your earrings made of?”
The majority of styles are handmade from polymer clay. Polymer clay itself is a durable, lightweight material, which makes it perfect for large statement styles without sacrificing comfort. Colors are hand-mixed, hand-marbled, and custom pigmented. Stud styles are made with titanium posts, which are adhered with liquid clay. Dangly styles are made with nickel free hooks. Most styles may also be converted to clip-ons, or leverbacks. Just be sure to read the product descriptions! With the idea of longevity in mind, we will slowly be transitioning to using only gold filled and sterling silver findings, and hope to be fully transitioned in the next few years. Some designs are made with raw brass charms, freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones, glass beads, or acrylic beads.
"How can I clean my earrings?"
- Clay pieces and metal findings can be gently cleaned with alcohol on a q-tip.
- Raw brass charms will naturally patina over time, and can be polished using various natural home remedies such as ketchup, or a mixture of baking soda/lemon juice. Jewelry grade polishing cloths can also be used. There are also brass-specific cleaning solutions available, such as Brasso.
- Pearls, crystals/gemstones, glass beads, and acrylic beads can be cleaned with a gentle dish soap and water on a q-tip. To prevent damage, do not fully submerge in water or concentrated cleaning solutions.
”How quickly will I receive my earrings after placing an order?”
Please allow up to 7 business days for your orders to be packed and processed. (Business days do not included weekends.) If you are ordering a pre-order or made-to-order style, please allow up to 2 weeks for your order to be made and shipped, unless noted otherwise. Turnaround times may increase during November and December due to holiday rushes. Be sure to check out our shipping policies as well for more details.
“What if my earrings break?”
We have a repairs program! Please do not throw out your broken earrings. If your earrings ever break, please reach out and email pictures of your damaged pieces. (Email to waterbearclayco@gmail.com) We will then assess the damage and reparability of your earrings. We will pay you to have them shipped back to us for either repair or to be repurposed. While we strive to create products that will last for many years, if not forever, we understand that accidents happen. It’s important to remember that at the end of the day, polymer clay is plastic and is sadly one of the hardest plastics to recycle. With the growing number of polymer clay artists it is of the most importance that we minimize our waste and keep plastic out of landfills.
